By accessing or using Unpack ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.
Unpack is a journaling application that uses artificial intelligence to help you reflect on and analyze your thoughts. The App allows you to scan handwritten journal entries, extract text using AI, dictate thoughts via voice, surface note-to-self tasks, engage in reflective AI-powered conversations organized into "tangents" (thought threads), and unlock subscription features such as Premium usage tiers, long-term memory, and related tools. The App can also generate temporary public share links for tangents you choose to share.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Unpack. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms.
You may create an account using Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for:
Unpack offers paid, auto-renewing subscriptions through Apple's App Store. The subscription plans, billing intervals, and prices shown in the App at the time of purchase are part of your offer.
When you purchase a subscription, Apple bills your Apple ID account and handles payment processing. Unless you cancel through your Apple account subscription settings before renewal, your subscription will renew automatically. If you cancel, your access generally continues through the end of the period you already paid for, unless Apple states otherwise.
From time to time, we may offer introductory pricing, trials, or other promotions. These offers may be available only to eligible users and may be determined by Apple, by us, or by both. Offer availability, duration, and eligibility can change, and we may modify or withdraw offers at any time consistent with applicable law and platform rules.
App Store purchases, billing issues, and refund requests are handled by Apple under Apple's policies and terms. Except where required by law, we do not issue direct refunds for App Store purchases.
You retain ownership of all journal entries and content you create ("User Content").
You grant us a limited license to host, store, process, and display your User Content solely to provide and improve the App's services, including AI analysis, subscription enforcement, memory extraction, syncing, support, and safety operations. We do not use your User Content to train third-party AI models.
You may choose to share a tangent via a public link. When you do, the tangent name and conversation messages become accessible to anyone with the link for up to 24 hours or until you turn sharing off, whichever happens first. You are responsible for the content you choose to share.
The App uses third-party AI services including OpenAI and Anthropic to extract handwriting, transcribe voice recordings, generate reflections and conversation responses, surface note-to-self tasks, and extract memories. When you use these AI-powered features, the content you choose to provide may be processed by us and our AI providers to deliver, personalize, secure, and improve those features. We do not use your journal entries, voice recordings, photos, memories, or conversations to train third-party AI models. AI-generated content is provided for informational and reflective purposes only.
You can turn off Unpack AI processing in Settings. If you do, AI-powered features may be limited or unavailable, including handwritten text extraction, dictation transcription, reflections, note-to-self tasks, memory personalization, and tangent conversations, because those features depend on AI processing.
AI-generated insights do not constitute medical, psychological, legal, or professional advice. Unpack is not a substitute for professional mental health support. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a crisis helpline or qualified professional immediately.
We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of AI-generated content. Use your own judgment when interpreting insights.
The App may extract and store memories (patterns, themes, relationships, and insights) from your journal entries to personalize future conversations. You can disable this feature at any time in Settings. Disabling it stops new memory extraction, and you can delete previously stored memories from Settings.
We do not use your journal content to train AI models unless we first ask for and receive your opt-in permission for that materially different use. Our AI providers are contractually or programmatically restricted from using our API traffic to train their models.
Premium and other paid features are intended for normal personal use. We may monitor plan usage, subscription activity, and related signals to provide plan entitlements, enforce free and paid plan rules, investigate fraud or abuse, protect our systems, and keep the service reliable for all users. We may suspend, throttle, restrict, or terminate access if we reasonably believe usage is automated, abusive, fraudulent, unlawful, or materially harms Unpack, our providers, or other users.

The App, including its design, features, software, and branding, is owned by KIMTU LLC and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you rights to our trademarks or branding.
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, KIMTU LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, OR PROFITS.
Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the App shall not exceed the greater of (a) $100 or (b) the amount you paid us for the App in the 12 months before the claim arose.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless KIMTU LLC from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the App or violation of these Terms.
We may suspend or terminate your account or access to the App at any time if you violate these Terms, engage in fraud or abuse, create legal or security risk, or materially harm the App or other users. To request account deletion, contact us at hi@unpackjournal.com or use the in-app account deletion flow.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice by email, in the App, on our website, or by another appropriate method. Continued use after the updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Delaware, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
